Dr. Alfred Oluropo Filani holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Law (Ph.D.) from the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. He obtained both his LL.B (Hons) and his Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State in the years 1988 and 1988 respectively. He attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Bar as a Solicitor and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the year 1990.

Dr. Filani joined the services of the then University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), Ado Ekiti, Nigeria in January 2008 as a Lecturer I and he is currently a Reader in the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law. In the course of his university career, he has, on previous occasions, been saddled with administrative responsibilities such as, but not limited to, holding the positions of Chairman, Faculty of Law Disciplinary Committee (2008-2015);

Coordinator, Faculty of Law Diploma in Law Programme; Invigilator, Post UTME (2010-2014); Congregation Representative on Senate; Member, Senate Committee on the Evaluation/Assessment of Textbooks and Journals in the University; Head of Department of Public Law; Member, Business Committee of Senate; Member, Committee to Investigate Gross Violation of the Regulations Guiding Students’ Union Election, 2017; Member, University Legal Advisory Committee – 2022 to date and Coordinator, Faculty of Law- August 2021 to July, 2023 until his recent re-appointment as the acting HOD of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law effective from August 1, 2023. He has distinguished himself in his service on the membership of various Faculty and University Committees and Boards. He teaches and supervises students both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Dr. A.O Filani has attended several conferences and seminars as well as published high impact factor articles in peer-reviewed or refereed indexed journals (onshore/offshore) plus two (2) publications as chapters in books. His research is in the area of Criminal Law and the Law of Evidence with specific interest in the areas of: Administrative Law, International Criminal Law and Anti-Corruption Law. He has taught Environmental Law, Law of Evidence, Administrative and Criminal Law at the undergraduate level and he currently supervises Two (2) PhD candidates with 6 LL.M Candidates successfully supervised, having taught classes at the Postgraduate level too.
