Welcome to the Faculty
I heartily welcome you to Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University. Law is a noble profession and it is for people who are worthy in character and learning as fit and proper persons to be admitted to the Nigerian Bar as Advocates and Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The Faculty of Law is the precursor learning ground that trains legal minds on the substantive content of Law prior to admission to the Nigerian Law school- a vocational training ground for learning the procedural aspects of Law.
The Faculty remains focused in ensuring academic and professional excellence with good character as the foundation of our training prism. The Faculty presently comprises four (4) departments housed in Faculty main building consisting of offices for academic and non-academic supporting staff, and the Faculty Annex housing offices for some of our academic staff.
The Faculty has 26 academic staff with 2 Professors, 5 Readers, 5 Senior Lecturers and 5 Lecturers I, 6 Lecturer II and 3 Assistant Lecturers.
We have Diploma-in-Law programme coordinated by the Directorate of Human Capital Development, (DHCD); Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), Master of Laws (LL.M), Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGD)and the M.Phil/Ph.D (Master of Philosophy /Doctor of Philosophy Degree programmes in the Faculty.
Our students are well behaved and always adorn the regulation dress of white on black as we comply with our quota in admitting students into the Faculty.
The Faculty LL.B Hons Degree awarded is to our undergraduate students with no specialisation.
Departmentalisation is well entrenched and functional in the Faculty with the roles of the Heads of Departments well outlined. The following activities starts from the Departmental Board : Course Allocation, Approval of Results, Approval of Sabbatical and other Leaves, Annual Review/ Promotion Exercise, etcetera. Thereafter, it moves to the Faculty Board for Ratification.
Our programmes in the Faculty are taught by a first-rate, experienced academic tutors and supported by a fine crop of non-teaching staff.
As the Dean, my doors are always opened and I am available to attend to anybody that needs my attention on issues about the Faculty. It is my pleasure and privilege to lead the Faculty at this time. There are a lot to do, to improve on the status quo. I am energized and excited about what we have to offer and the many opportunities embedded in training our students and fortifying them for the challenges ahead as contemporary legal giants that are poised to deliver topnotch legal services of global standards and developing our Faculty to enviable heights and serving our immediate community.
The Faculty has embarked on nurturing a very robust and cordial relationship with our alumni, many of whom are distinguished in the legal profession as Judges, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Directors in Corporate organisations, Speakers of Parliaments, Political office holders, successful Legal Practitioners, on one hand and our employers, friends within the University community and other important external stakeholders.
