Dr. Michael Sunday AFOLAYAN was born on the 6th November, 1977. He attended St. Moses C & S Primary School, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State from 1984 to 1989. He proceeded for his Secondary School Education at the Lennon Jubilee High School, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State from 1990 to 1995. He immediately got admission into the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti in 1996, where he studied Draughtsmanship (Mechanical Engineering Option) and completed same in November 1997. He was admitted into the Faculty of Law, University of Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University) where he graduated with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in the year 2008 and was admitted into the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus in October 2008. He completed his Law School in the year 2009 with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) at the Bar Finals. On the 3rd November, 2009 he was called into the prestigious Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Dr. Afolayan was appointed as a Law Lecturer, first in October 2012 at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti where he spent just a month before he was appointed Lecturer II in Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti in November, 2012. He is presently, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Business & Industrial Law. He was the former Sub-Dean, and the present Ag. Head, Business and Industrial Law, Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University. He teaches Law of Contract, Cyber Law, Law of Taxation, and Commercial Law. He wrote his PhD Law Thesis on Electronic Commercial Transactions Issues focusing on e-Taxation, e-Evidence and Jurisdictional Issues in e-Commerce.
In December 2017, Dr. Michael Sunday AFOLAYAN was appointed a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria by the Chief Justice of the Federation of Nigeria, and was sworn-in by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon. Justice Simeon Ayodeji Daramola in January 2018. Dr. Michael Afolayan is a member of numbers of International and Domestic Professional Bodies, which include, African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), Professional Negotiator & Mediators of Nigeria (Pnm), Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), former Financial Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association, Ikere-Ekiti Branch (2012-2014), former Secretary, NBA Ikere-Ekiti Branch (2018-2020), and member, National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA-NEC 2018-2020). He is the Charter President and the current President, Ekiti State University Lions Club.
